2008 PLGA Print Quality Awards

Welcome to the Packaging & Label Gravure Association Print Quality Awards Program for products produced during the year 2007.

Thanks to all of our participants, the “Print Quality Awards” program is growing. This year we had a total of 103 entries, a 27% increase over last year. The most noticeable increase was in the area of Flexible Packaging. We also had 17 entries for the International Print QualityAwards, again a significant increase.

Each year, the judging of awards becomes more difficult because of the number and quality of awards submitted in each category. In Category 12, Flexible Packaging, Film/Film Lamination process, the judges for the first time awarded two winners in a category because of a numerical tie in the score for each entry, and an Honorable Mention because the quality of work justified it. An “Honorable Mention” was also awarded in several categories where the judges felt that the overall rating of the entry justified such an award.

The excitement of the membership resonated at the opening night reception and awards presentation. This year winners were notified in advance so the companies could make sure those responsible for the awards were present to share in the celebration. Some winners actually brought their customer representatives to share in receiving the award! Powerful customer satisfaction! Representatives from all award-winning companies were present which made foran exciting program.

While many companies submitted entries to the awards, two stood out as winners in multiple categories. Alcan Packaging received 13 awards in categories from paperboard to in-mold label-film and film/paper laminations. Alcan’s representation was truly global with 6 international awards and 7 domestic awards. Multi-Color Corporation was also a multiple winner with 8 awards in categories from heat shrinkabl elabel, to in-mold film, and glueapplied label. They also were awarded the Material Innovations Award. Representatives from both companies were on-site and able to share in the achievement during the awards presentation.Next year’s awards are anticipated to be even better as both the number of entries and the quality level have increased steadily. Watch your newsletter and conference mailings for more information. Thank you to all of this year’s judges! It wasn’t easy this year and next year will prove to be even more challenging!
